Top 20 Leaderboard Analysis - Implications

I’m at Level 70/603 and have built up 4 characters so far - Wizard, Monk, Barbarian, and Crusader. Everyone says to do what the top players do. So I’ve looked at gear, gems, skills, etc. and finally decided to go a little deeper based on what I’ve learned are important criteria controllable via Paragon points or enchantments other than primary stats.

For me that criteria is Build, Cooldown Reduction (CDR), Critical Hit Chance(CHC), Critical Hit Damage (CHD), All Resistance (AR), Other Resistance (OR), Crowd Control (CC), and Legendary Gems rank (LG). LG is the sum of LGs equipped so my number is divided by 3 to show approximate LG levels. Each player will find their own criteria but I think these will be near the top.

I took the top 10 Soft Core (SC) and top 10 Hard Core (HC) players from the Season 11 Greater Rift Solo boards on this web site. I logged all the above stats and than began analysis. First I found that there were a few that indicated no equipment and the stats were all zero (O) so I discarded them. Within each group I eliminated the top and bottom members if they were way outside the statistical norm of the rest of the group. The 8/19 indicates 8 out of the 19 members in that group.

Here’s the results and their implications. I was very surprised at the variance in the different builds.

ALL BUILDS
Top Build - Trag'Oul Set (Necromancer) 15/20 - probably because it’s new
Second Build - Rathma (Necromancer) 3/20 - probably because it’s new
CDR - >40% 14/20
CDR - 30% - 40% 5/20
CHC - 50%
CHD - 409%
AR - 1035% - Out of the 20, 11/20 had OR of +20%, while 2/20 had +40% (one of these was a Monk Build)
CC - 32% 9/20, Only 4/20 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 11/20 had 0
LG - 105. There were 5/20 that indicated 0 gems
Implications: CDR, CHC, CHD and AR are critrical, but only 2 seemed to deal with wide variance in AR and one was a Monk probably using the Harmony skill. Since all were Necromancer builds I think thay were based on their newness to Season 11 and/or the table I was using wasn’t reflecting ALL players. (Sorry, I couldn’t find a different table).

BARBARIAN
Top Build - Wrath of the Wastes 10/18
Second Build - Might of the Earth 5/18
CDR - 20% - 30% 5/18
CDR - 30% - 40% 8/18
CDR - >40% 2/18
CHC - 42% 19/18, 1/18 was 0
CHD - 452% 18/18, 2/18 only had 50
AR - 938% - Out of the 18, 18/18 had OR of 0%, while 2/18 had +20%
CC - 35% 11/18, Only 6/18 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 6/18 had 0
LG - 80. There were 4/18 that indicated 0 gems
Implications: CDR, CHC, CHD and AR are critical. CC appears to be helpful, but not necessary.

CRUSADER
Top Build - Seeker of Light 15/20
Second Build - Litany of Nightmares 2/20
CDR - >40% 7/20
CDR - 30% - 40% 12/20
CHC - 50%, 4/20 had minimal CHC
CHD - 413%, 5/20 had minimal CHD
AR - 851% - 3/20 had AR < 700. Out of the 20, 5/20 had OR of +10%, while 15/20 had 0%
CC - 37% 8/20, Only 4/20 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 12/20 had 0
LG - 87. There were 6/20 that indicated 0 gems
Implications: CDR, CHC and CHD are critical. AR is important, but not as critical. CC is helpful, but not necessary.

DEMON HUNTER
Top Build - Shadow’s Mantle 17/20
Second Build - Hallowed Protectors 3/20
CDR - 0 - 10% 15/20
CDR - 10% - 30% 5/20
CHC - 54%
CHD - 464%
AR - 917% - 18/20. Out of the 20, 18/20 had OR of 0%, while 2/20 had +40%
CC - 32% 8/20, Only 4/20 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 11/20 had 0
LG - 90
Implications: Shadow’s Mantle is the #1 build. CHC, CHD, and AR are critical. CDR and CC are helpful, but not necessary.

MONK
Top Build - Litany of Nightmares 9/17
Second Build - Inna’s Mantra 4/17, 1000 Storms 3/17
CDR - 0 - 20% 10/17
CDR - 20% - 30% 4/17
CDR - 30% - 40% 3/17
CHC - 44%
CHD - 506%
AR - 625% - 13/17 (3 were < 400). Out of the 17, 14/17 had OR of >50%, while 2/17 had 0%. This seems to indicate that Harmony skill is being used.
CC - 28% 4/17, 13/17 had 0
LG - 100. There were 8/17 that indicated 0 gems.
Implications: The Litany of Nightmares is the #1 build. CDR, CHC, and CHD are critical. AR doesn’t seem to be as important and most indicate the use of the Harmony skill. CC is helpful, but not necessary.

NECROMANCER
Top Build - Trag'Oul Set (Necromancer) 15/20
Second Build - Rathma (Necromancer) 4/20
CDR - <10% 10/20
CDR - 30% - 40% 5/20
CHC - 51%
CHD - 405%
AR - 1024% - Out of the 20, 10/20 had OR of 0%, while 8/20 had +20%
CC - 35% 8/20, Only 5/20 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 12/20 had 0
LG - 104. There were 4/20 that indicated 0 gems
Implications: Trag’Oul is the #1 build. CHC, CHD, and AR are critical. CDR seems to either be irrelevant or important depending on the player. CC is helpful, but not necessary.

WITCH DOCTOR
Top Build - Litany of Nightmares 18/19
CDR - <0% 10/19
CDR - 10% - 20% 9/19
CHC - 51%
CHD - 433%
AR - 1166% - Out of the 19, 4/19 had OR of +20%, while 15/19 had 0%
CC - 34% 9/19, Only 7/19 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 19/19 had 0
LG - 82. There were 9/19 that indicated 0 gems.
Implications: Litany of Nightmares is the #1 build. CHC, CHD, and AR are critical. CDR seems irrelevant. CC is helpful, but not necessary.

WIZARD
Top Build - Vyr / Tal Rasha Combo 18/18
CDR - >40% 18/18
CHC - 51%
CHD - 365%
AR - 1297% - Out of the 18, 11/18 had OR of +20%, while 2/18 had +40%
CC - 41% 9/18, Only 9/18 seemed to indicate 2+ gear with this buff, 8/18 had 0
LG - 93. There were 2/18 that indicated 0 gems.
Implications: The Vyr / Tal Rasha Combo is the #1 build. CDR, CHC, CHD and AR are all critical. CC is important.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I was surprised to see the LoN so important to the Witch Doctor and Monk builds. I use and enjoy the Inna’s Mantra. I’ve been using the LoN for my Crusader. I’ll have to look into the changes.

I’ve always believed that high CC was important. Several builds find it helpful, but not critical.

The Wizard Vyr / Tal Rasha Combo build is what I use after testing all the others out and experimenting with this character as my first one.

LG was interesting in that it agrees with the character level and GR capability but in many cases seems to have no use for some of the top players. I understand when a full character build comes up empty, but why would LG be “0" when all the other stats are commensurate with the character build?

This project was done for me to plan future builds, but I’d love to have other’s thoughts on this, too.
